What is up with Pakistan and terrorism against the US?

The 5 men detained today in Pakistan are just the latest in a long line of people who have worked against the US or were hell-bent on terrorism against the US. My question is, Why? Why are some of these Pakistani citizens or Pakistan-based American citizens doing this to the US and its interests? We have given them political, military, monetary, diplomatic and every other possible support for the longest time. This seems so counter-productive to Pakistan, its people and its interests.
