What's the best way (cost efficient) to get to Miami from Ft. Lauderdale Aiport? Taxi? Rentacar? Shuttle?

I am going on a cruise that leaves from a port in Miami so we're staying a night there before our vacation to the caribbeans. What are the 'must do's' in Miami? (We're in our late 20's)
