Accusative and Infinitive - in ENGLISH and LATIN....?

If memory serves me right some linguists have said that English is merely Old German with a French/Latin derived vocabulary. While this is an over-simplification, the constructs of verbs are more closely related to the Germanic languages (German, Dutch, etc.) than they are of Latin origin.
