Wouldn't a centrally planned economy be beneficial if a country were to be in perpetual war?

A centrally planned economy could devote resources towards the war effort and invade countries that they would have an advantage over and exploit the resources there and establish trade routes. Furthermore, it would allow obedience to the state and provide nationalist propaganda that would prevent rebellion. It would give the youth pride while they go fight for their country. Wouldn't this be benefical to the citizens as well as the government?
