Need ideas to cover up an exterior wall?

One wall of my house is covered with overgrown bushes. 1 is yew, and there are 3 purple bushes with thorns. I cut a tree type bush down to a stump last fall. Now I want to rip all the bushes out but the problem is thats the side of the house with the meter and the bricks are discolored. I need an idea to cover that wall. The garden could easily be expanded to include that area but i dont know what to grow along the wall to cover it up. The shrubs there now already look aweful and I think it would look better with nothing there at all but my mom disagrees. She rejected lining the wall with giant sunflowers or tomato bushes and planting ivy and letting it grow up the wall. I need ideas to cover it up because the thorn bushes really get on my nerves when I p them and get all cut up. Not to mention its extremely aweful looking to begin with and I live on a corner so everyone can see the wall. Its only about 40ft. long
