How to start multiple businesses?

I am experimenting with different business ventures. Most of my ideas will start online but if something takes off I would venture into a brick and mortar location. Could I start an LLC and put all of the businesses under that LLC? What are the Tax, Legal, and Organizational, ramifications of putting all of the businesses under one LLC? For example if one of the businesses gets sued does it effect all of the businesses?
