Can you use Open Source software for a Commercial game?

I've read lots of complex answers to this question but I don't know some advanced software lingo. So my title is the question, but an example would be: If I was to make a video game, would i be able to use some Open Source software to make it, even if I wanted to sell it? Like if I used an open source tree generator or building generator could i still sell the game, even if I gave it credit?
